“China will establish a center for international knowledge on development to research and communicate with other countries on development theories and practices suitable to their respective national conditions.”

-Chinese President Xi Jinping, 2015

Founded in March 2017, The Center for International Knowledge on Development (CIKD) was first announced in President Xi Jinping’s speech at the 2015 UN Development Summit. In August 2017, CIKD was officially launched and received congratulatory letters from both President Xi Jinping and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. President Xi emphasized in his letter that CIKD should actively contribute to researching and communicating development wisdom, promoting international development cooperation, and pushing forward the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda (2030 Agenda). Secretary General António Guterres said in his letter that the partnership between CIKD and multiple UN agencies would promote knowledge sharing, exchange of experiences and the advancement of thought leadership.

CIKD strives to research and communicate with other countries on development theories and practices suitable to their respective national conditions with reference to China’s development experience. Upholding the values of “scientific integrity, multiple perspectives, and mutual learning”, CIKD would promote international development cooperation and communication through multiple ways and approaches and contribute Chinese wisdom on development and Chinese solutions to sustainable development.

Keeping its mission firmly in mind and in seeking to fulfill its aims and principles, CIKD seeks to be a high-quality researcher and effective communicator of China’s development knowledge and a key member of the global knowledge network for development. “The road before us is long and winding. Depart now and we shall be arriving.” We believe that by pooling Chinese and international resources, CIKD could strengthen the foundation of China’s development knowledge and make important and unique contributions to the sharing of development wisdoms, the promotion of international development cooperation and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

We wish to extend our sincere gratitude to all institutions and individuals who have given support to the Center for International Knowledge on Development.
